Better Streets signs joint statement to the Australian Government

Better Streets has signed a joint statement to the Australian Government in response to their open call for consultation on developing Australia's Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Roadmap and Action Plan.

The joint statement is being organised by Climate Action Network Australia (CANA) here and has over 60 signatories from around Australia.

The Joint Statement recommends the government:

  1. Set science based targets for cutting transport emissions

  2. The Roadmap follow the hierarchy in their proposed “avoid-shift-improve” framework:

    1. Avoid unnecessary travel in the first instance

    2. Shift towards towards cleaner, more efficient modes of transporting people and goods – that are also affordable and accessible to people experiencing a disadvantage. Enabling mode shift to greater use of public, shared and active transport

  3. The government engages with the coalition groups.
